Abstract

Cumming, Strnadová, and Singh postulated 2014, that the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework promotes “access and inclusion through the development of flexible learning environments comprised of multiple means of representation, engagement and expression”. Therefore UDL provides a suitable theoretical framework for research examining use of mobile technology by students with developmental disabilities. This paper details the authors’ research work with students, parents, and teachers and their experiences with using mobile technology (specifically iPads) within the UDL framework. It explores the ways that iPads were used to support the learning of students with developmental disabilities, in both general and special education settings. Results, implications for practice and future research are discussed.
