Abstract

This study delves into the performance evaluation of pavement rehabilitation treatments, specifically microsurfacing and two-lift mill and overlay methods, using data from Nova Scotia's highway network. The research focuses on roughness and rutting as reliable indicators to assess the efficiency and longevity of these treatments. By analyzing data from 65 rehabilitation projects between 2014 and 2019, the study compares the initial performance improvements and the duration of these benefits. The findings highlight the differences in outcomes between the two methods, with two-lift mill and overlay showing superior resistance to rutting damage. The study also discusses the practical implications of using roughness and rutting data to prioritize maintenance and identify areas needing further investigation. The results suggest that this approach can be a valuable tool in pavement asset management, especially when more detailed data is unavailable.
