The cable system provider Leoni has begun construction of a new factory in Roth, Germany. The new building will have a total surface area of approximately 57,000 m². Leoni is investing a total of 90 million euros in the location. The focus of production lies in cabling for the automotive industry. The company is also planning to develop and manufacture data cables adapted specifically for automated driving. The new plant will produce up to 400,000 km of cable annually, whereby the product portfolio will range from optical cables for telecommunication and infrastructure up to high voltage and charging cables for vehicles with alternative powertrains. Leoni is planning the gradual shift of manufacturing from the existing plant from the beginning of 2019. The relocation of around 800 employees is expected to be complete by the middle of 2020. …
