Volkswagen of America has begun work on extending its plant in Chattanooga (USA). By 2022, the site in the US state of Tennessee will be the company's North American hub for the production of electric vehicles. Volkswagen has invested around 726 million euros in the plant and will create around 1000 new jobs. The plant will increase in size by a total of 52,400 m2 and a new assembly line for fully electric vehicles based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) is currently under construction. A facility for the assembly of battery packs will also be built in Chattanooga.
