Mercedes-Benz Cars has opened a factory for plug-in hybrid batteries in the Bangkok region of Thailand. Together with its local partners Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) and Thonburi Energy Storage Systems (TESM), Mercedes-Benz has invested a total of more than 100 million euros in the battery factory and in the expansion of the existing vehicle plant. There is also an assessment and testing center on the site. More than 300 new jobs will be created at the factory and the production facilities are highly standardized and flexible. As a result, they can be quickly adapted to local market conditions. Solar panels on the roof of the manufacturing building will allow for carbon-neutral production from 2022. Excess solar power will be stored temporarily in second- life battery storage systems consisting of used electric vehicle batteries.
