Abstract

This chapter delves into the performance evaluation of high Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) content in road construction, highlighting its sustainability benefits and potential challenges. The study investigates the impact of varying RAP percentages on key mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures, comparing them with virgin materials. It also explores the environmental and economic implications of using RAP over the entire pavement life cycle. Through extensive laboratory testing and mix design, the research demonstrates the feasibility of incorporating high RAP content while maintaining performance and durability. The findings suggest that with proper mix design and material selection, high RAP mixtures can contribute to more sustainable and cost-effective road construction practices. The study concludes that adhering to IS codes ensures satisfactory performance in terms of load-bearing capacity and resistance to distresses, paving the way for more environmentally responsible road construction.
