Abstract

The article 'Performance evaluation of PI and FLC controller for shunt active power filters' delves into the critical issue of power quality degradation due to the increasing use of renewable energy sources and nonlinear loads. It compares the effectiveness of Proportional-Integral (PI) and Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) controllers in shunt active power filters (SAPF), focusing on their ability to mitigate harmonics and maintain DC bus capacitor voltage. The study presents a novel aggregated PWM method for balancing individual DC link capacitor voltages, reducing voltage unbalance, and enhancing power factor correction. The research is validated through comprehensive simulations and hardware implementation, demonstrating the superior performance of the proposed FLC-based SAPF system in both balanced and unbalanced supply conditions. The article offers valuable insights into the advanced control strategies necessary for improving power quality in modern electrical systems.
