Abstract

This chapter delves into the performance of bored piles socketed in weathered rock, focusing on a high-rise building project in Hai Phong City, Vietnam. The study addresses the challenges of predicting the bearing capacity of piles in weathered rock, where technical standards lack specific guidelines. Through numerical analysis using Plaxis 3D and load test verification, the research proposes a method to select suitable rock parameters with limited soil data. The Hoek–Brown model is applied to simulate the behavior of weathered rock, and the results are compared with actual pile load test data. The analysis shows a strong agreement between the numerical model and the load test results, indicating the model's effectiveness in predicting pile behavior. The study concludes that the proposed numerical simulation and input parameters can be reliably used for practical engineering applications involving piles socketed in weathered rock.
