Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricacies of phased-array transmitter design, beginning with the conventional direct conversion transmitter architecture. It explores the key components such as the local oscillator, I/Q modulator, power amplifier, band-pass filter, and antenna. The text then focuses on the phased-array architecture, which combines output power from multiple devices to achieve efficient high-power generation. The proposed 28 GHz phased-array transmitter for 5G is detailed, including the design of the polyphase filter, phase rotator, mixer, tunable low-pass filter, and power divider. The chapter also presents simulation and measurement results, demonstrating the performance of the designed components. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights into the optimization and trade-offs involved in designing high-frequency communication systems.
