Abstract

This article delves into the critical factors influencing the deformation and failure of gently inclined shallow accumulation-layer landslides, particularly those triggered by heavy rainfall. Through a series of physical model experiments, the study examines the impact of rainfall intensity and sliding bed gradients on landslide instability. The research focuses on the dynamic changes in the deformation field, stress field, and seepage field of accumulation-layer slopes, providing a detailed analysis of the initiation mechanisms and critical conditions for landslide occurrence. The study also explores the failure mode of these landslides, highlighting the four stages of deformation: deformation at the front edge of the slope, tensile cracking at the trailing edge of the sliding body, sliding stage of the landslide front edge, and integral failure of the slope along the soil-bedrock interface. The conclusions drawn from the experiments offer a reliable basis for implementing landslide protection measures and provide an important theoretical foundation for predicting, warning, and preventing rainstorm-induced soil landslides in Sichuan Province, China.
