Abstract

This study delves into the physical properties and corrosion behavior of Mo-YSZ cermets in molten iron, with a particular focus on the effects of composition and particle size. The research reveals that ultrafine powders significantly enhance the mechanical properties of cermets, with notable improvements in bending strength and hardness. The study also explores the corrosion mechanisms, highlighting the formation of a YSZ-rich skeleton layer that inhibits molten iron penetration and reduces the chemical melting corrosion rate of Mo. The total corrosion depth of Mo-YSZ cermets is shown to exhibit a nearly parabolic relationship with time, with the overall corrosion rate gradually decreasing with the formation of the YSZ layer. The formation of a dense YSZ-rich layer is identified as a critical factor in determining the corrosion resistance of cermets. Increasing the YSZ content and reducing the initial particle size are found to effectively enhance the corrosion resistance of these materials. The study concludes with a comparative analysis, demonstrating the superior properties of Mo-YSZ cermets compared to other non-metallic corrosion-resistant materials.
