Abstract

This chapter explores a pioneering multi-fusion approach to enhance underwater image quality, addressing the challenges posed by water and lighting conditions. The method combines advanced techniques such as white balance correction, contrast enhancement, and multi-weight, multi-granularity fusion to improve color balance, contrast, and overall visual clarity. The chapter delves into the methodology, which includes converting images to Lab color space, applying Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), and calculating various weights for image enhancement. The results demonstrate significant improvements in underwater images, showcasing enhanced contrast, reduced color distortions, and better visibility of marine life and underwater environments. The chapter also discusses the potential applications of this technology in marine research, underwater photography, and surveillance, highlighting its versatility and effectiveness. Additionally, the chapter evaluates the enhanced images using metrics like UIConM, UIQE, and UCIQE, providing a quantitative assessment of the improvement.
