Abstract

This article delves into the intricate world of plant-associated soil microbial communities and their pivotal role in mitigating abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, and heavy metal toxicity. It highlights how these microbes enhance nutrient uptake, increase plant resilience, and adapt to stress conditions through mechanisms like stress memory and quorum sensing. The review explores emerging concepts like microbial stress memory, quorum sensing, and pan-omics to study the complex plant-microbe interaction during abiotic stress conditions. Additionally, it discusses strategies like Synthetic consortia (SynCom) design, CRISPR-based microbial engineering, and AI-guided microbiome optimization for sustainable agriculture. The article also examines the impact of climate change on microbial stress dynamics and the response of plant-associated soil microorganisms to various abiotic stress factors. It concludes with practical applications and challenges in commercializing these microbial technologies for real-world agricultural use.
