Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of aircraft icing, which significantly impacts flight performance. It highlights the challenges posed by traditional anti-icing methods in the context of modern aviation technologies, such as laminar flow control, composite materials, and electric propulsion. The study presents an experimental investigation using plasma actuation driven by AC power for anti-/de-icing, which effectively mitigates ice formation without excessive weight or energy consumption. The research utilizes Supercooled Water Droplet Image Velocimetry (SWDIV) to analyze the flow fields and ice formation processes, revealing the physical mechanisms and coupling effects of plasma actuation. The findings demonstrate the potential of plasma-based systems to meet the demands of next-generation aircraft, offering a promising solution for efficient and environmentally friendly anti-/de-icing methods.
