Abstract

The chapter 'Playing with Dynamic Systems - Battling Swarms in Virtual Reality' introduces a novel approach to teaching network dismantling strategies through an interactive virtual reality game. The game, designed as a first-person shooter, tasks players with dismantling swarms of flying robots, each representing nodes in a network. By incorporating different network topologies such as scale-free and grid networks, the game simulates real-world network structures and their dynamics. The use of virtual reality enhances player immersion and learning outcomes, making the game both entertaining and educational. The chapter also includes a preliminary empirical study that evaluates the effectiveness of the game in teaching network dismantling strategies, providing insights into the potential of serious games for educational purposes.
