The VW Tiguan has been extensively redesigned. The compact SUV is now electrified, digitalised and networked. In addition to the plug-in hybrid version, the top-of-the-range Tiguan R with torque vectoring is also new.

After just over four years of production, Volkswagen has redesigned the second generation of the Tiguan. The redesign focused in particular on the front of the VW Tiguan. The modified front features a new SUV radiator grille, the design of which is based on larger models such as the Touareg. The shape of the matrix LED headlights is reminiscent of the VW Golf, whilst the rear now sports the "Tiguan" lettering.

In addition to the familiar touch sliders and touchscreens for climate control from the Golf 8, the interior also features touch technology on the steering wheel. The infotainment system is based on the latest generation (MIB3) and is fully networked. As for driver assistance, Travel Assist now enables semi-autonomous driving at speeds of up to 210 km/h.

VW Tiguan now available as eHybrid

There are two different drive models available. The Tiguan eHybrid combines a TSI engine with an electric drive and provides a system performance of 180 kW (245 HP). The PHEV SUV can travel at speeds of up to 130 km/h on electric power alone and offers a range of over 50 km in E-Mode. The Tiguan TDI models are equipped with twin dosing technology, in which two SCR catalytic converters and a dual AdBlue injection system significantly reduce the levels of nitrogen oxides.

The lowered VW Tiguan R will be the new top-of-the-range model. According to VW, the 235 kW (320 HP) SUV has particularly sleek driving dynamics thanks to the 4Motion all-wheel drive with torque splitter, which can vary the power distribution between the front and rear axles as well as between the left and right rear wheels.
