Abstract

The chapter begins by introducing the central government’s policies such as FAME I and II, and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for Advanced Cell Chemistry. It also discusses the EV policies of various states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, which are among the top states driving EV registrations. The chapter then evaluates the effectiveness of these policies in facilitating the EV transition and identifies gaps that need to be addressed. It also explores the factors behind EV adoption in other countries and suggests linkages between industrial and investment policies to boost EV adoption in India. Additionally, the chapter highlights the importance of a strong policy framework, financial and non-financial incentives, and effective charging infrastructure for successful EV adoption. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the need for a holistic approach that includes policy, innovation, and awareness to promote mass adoption of e-mobility in India.
