Abstract

The chapter 'Port Cities and Evaluation: A Literature Review to Explore Their Interplay in Planning' delves into the intricate relationship between port cities and evaluation methods. It examines how port cities, as unique urban environments, require careful planning and management due to their significant economic, social, and environmental impacts. The research focuses on the application of evaluation models to assess, monitor, and guide the sustainable development of port cities. By conducting a literature review of the Scopus database, the study identifies key thematic groups and effective evaluation methods. The findings reveal a polarization in the scientific literature, with some studies focusing on operational aspects of ports and others on urban transformation and environmental issues. The chapter also highlights the need for rigorous evaluative approaches to capture the interdependence among economic, social, and environmental factors in port cities. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights for professionals seeking to understand and implement sustainable development strategies in port city ecosystems.
