Abstract

The article introduces a portable deep-learning decoder for motor imaginary EEG signals based on a compact convolutional neural network with spatial-attention mechanisms. The decoder is implemented on a single-chip microcontroller, enabling real-time and portable brain-computer interface applications. The proposed CNN architecture is optimized for low computational complexity and high accuracy, with a focus on selecting relevant EEG channels to reduce data size and improve performance. The decoder is validated using the GigaDB MI EEG dataset, showing promising results in classifying imaginary left- and right-hand motions. The study highlights the potential of deep-learning techniques in developing artificial-intelligent wearable BCI devices for real-life assistance.
