Abstract

The article investigates the critical role of post-combustion CO2 capture in mitigating the environmental impact of steel production, which accounts for over 7% of global CO2 emissions. It focuses on amine-scrubbing, a promising technology that uses chemical absorption to capture CO2 from industrial flue gases. The study presents an in-depth analysis of an amine-scrubbing pilot plant at an integrated steel mill, highlighting the optimization of operating parameters to achieve high CO2 separation efficiencies while minimizing regeneration energy. Key findings include the trade-off between separation efficiency and specific regeneration energy, the impact of the liquid to gas ratio on process performance, and the importance of monitoring solvent loss for long-term operation. The article also discusses the potential of alternative amines to further enhance the process's efficiency and sustainability.
