Abstract

The chapter delves into the issue of ground vibrations induced by impact piling, a common foundation method in high-rise construction and bridge building. It discusses the need to control these vibrations due to their potential damage to nearby structures and discomfort to occupants. The study focuses on passive damping techniques, specifically the use of in-filled trenches with waste rice husk ash (RHA) as a sustainable and cost-effective solution. The characteristics of RHA, such as its high silica content and cementitious properties, are highlighted. The chapter also compares the effectiveness of different trench designs and materials in reducing vibration propagation, with a particular focus on the advantages of using RHA over traditional materials like concrete.
