Abstract

This study delves into the potential of industrial by-products, specifically fly ash and silica fume, to enhance asphalt binders through the process of geopolymerization. The research investigates how these waste materials can be transformed into geopolymers that improve the rheological properties of asphalt, making it more resistant to rutting and fatigue cracking. The study also examines the effect of curing time on the performance of geopolymer-modified asphalt, revealing that longer curing periods can enhance the binder's resistance to rutting and thermal cracking. The findings suggest that incorporating geopolymers into asphalt not only improves its performance but also offers environmental benefits by reducing the need for frequent road maintenance and rehabilitation. The study concludes that geopolymer-modified asphalt binders are a sustainable and economical solution for road construction, with the potential to meet specific performance grade requirements.
