Dieser Beitrag diskutiert klimabezogenes Engagement mit Unternehmen als ein Mittel im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel. Zunächst wird untersucht, welchen Beitrag institutionelle Anleger zur Bewältigung der Klimakrise leisten können. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Frage, was institutionelle Investoren in Bezug auf verantwortliches Handeln zu Fragen des Klimawandels vorweisen können – insbesondere mit Blick auf Engagement und die Ausübung der Stimmrechte. Grundsätzlich ist darauf zu verweisen, dass angesichts der Klimakrise, mit der sich sowohl die Erde als Ganzes wie auch die Wirtschaft konfrontiert sehen, der Handlungsansatz der Investoren, ihre diesbezügliche Verantwortung wahrzunehmen, noch unzureichend ist.
Zum Zweiten illustriert dieser Beitrag anhand eines Engagement-Beispiels von Investoren im Bankensektor, wie diese sinnvoller Weise mit den Unternehmen, in die sie investiert sind, zu klimabezogenen Fragen in Dialog treten können – sei es durch Fragen und Abstimmungen bei Hauptversammlungen, durch das Versenden von Briefen oder durch das Einreichen oder Unterstützen von Aktionärsanträgen. Der Beitrag enthält Beispiele für jede Art von Engagement wie auch Vorschläge, in welchen Kontexten diese zielführend sein könnten. Die Ausführungen basieren auf den Erfahrungen von ShareAction, einer gemeinnützigen Organisation, die sich für den Aufbau einer globalen Investmentbranche einsetzt, die Verantwortung für ihre Wirkungen auf Mensch und Umwelt übernimmt.
