Abstract

The article delves into the analysis of low-strength rocks through stress-strain curves, focusing on parameters such as Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and uniaxial compressive strength. It introduces the concepts of crack initiation (CI) and crack damage (CD) stress levels, and examines the dilatant behaviour of weak rocks under uniaxial compression. The study also investigates the post-failure modulus and the relationship between various strain parameters and uniaxial compressive strength. By comparing the behaviour of weak rocks with that of hard rocks, the article offers new insights into the challenges and complexities of characterising low-strength rock materials.
