Abstract

This work presents an experimental in-vitro study, involving fresh pork bone, which compares the temperature generated in the bone when using a medical drill bit, a self-drilling tapered half-pin and a self-drilling cylindrical half-pin. The study compares the insertion of pins based on a pre-drilling process and their direct insertion. The drilling process of bone have been done in a milling machine with control in the speed advance and rotation. The temperature measurement was made using an infrared thermography camera. When comparing the maximum temperature obtained with the different procedures, the pre-drilling process in pin insertion clearly suggests an advantage in order to minimize the appearance of bone tissue necrosis.
