Multicast mobility management poses a great challenge in mobile Internet. This paper proposes a novel multicast mobility management algorithm using our proposed RingNet hierarchy, which takes advantage of our designed four states for mobility management: Not-in-the-group, PassiveReservation, QuasiReservation, and ActiveReservation, and two kinds of ranges which are closely related to a Mobile Host (MH) ’s attached device called the Access Proxy (AP): TransmissionRange and ReservationRange. By judging the state of the AP and the distance between the AP and its attaching MH, operations of mobility management can be implemented. The introduction of prediction algorithm greatly decreases the blindness of resource reservation, and avoids the unnecessary waste of bandwidth. Furthermore, the introduction of resource reservation makes the smooth handoff highly probable.
