Abstract

The article delves into the prediction of thermal and residual stress distributions in SS304 materials, widely used in nuclear reactor components. It highlights the significance of welding residual stress and distortions in the performance of welded structures. The study employs 3D finite element methods to model the welding process, focusing on the thermal cycles and phase changes that induce internal strains. The thermo-mechanical simulation using ANSYS is crucial for determining residual stresses and distortion predictions. The authors also discuss the challenges in computational models, such as microstructure evolution and phase transformations. The research provides valuable insights into the optimization of welding conditions for improved structural performance in nuclear applications.
