Abstract

The article delves into the critical role of shear wave velocity (Vs) in dynamic analysis and the challenges of accurately measuring it through undisturbed samples. It introduces a multivariable nonlinear regression prediction model that uses cone penetration test (CPT) parameters to estimate Vs, considering factors such as effective stress and void ratio. The study focuses on the IIT Patna campus, located in the alluvial plain of the Ganga River, where the geology is influenced by fine sand particles. The authors propose two site-specific prediction models, one with four parameters and another with five, to estimate Vs from CPT data. The novelty lies in the inclusion of void ratio in the prediction model, which improves the accuracy of Vs determination.
