Abstract

The article delves into the preparation and characterization of biopolymeric films derived from fruit and vegetable waste, focusing on their potential for sustainable food packaging. It addresses the environmental concerns surrounding traditional plastics and highlights the advantages of biodegradable alternatives. The research involves the extraction of starch from banana and potato peels, followed by the preparation of biopolymeric films using a casting method. The films are then subjected to various mechanical and physical tests, including tensile strength, tear resistance, solubility, swelling, and biodegradability. The results indicate that these biopolymeric films have promising properties for food packaging applications, contributing to the reduction of plastic waste and promoting a more sustainable future. The article also includes detailed characterization using FTIR, TGA, and SEM, providing a thorough understanding of the films' structural and functional properties.
