Preparation and characterizations of active carbon/barium ferrite/polypyrrole composites
Abstract
Three-component composites of active carbon(C)/BaFe12O19/ polypyrrole (PPY) have been synthesized and characterized. Active carbon was first composited with BaFe12O19 simultaneously with the hydrothermal formation of the ferrite to obtain a uniform two component product. Then, composites C/BaFe12O19/PPY were prepared by in situ polymerization of pyrrole on C/BaFe12O19. The effects of the addition of carbon and PPY on reflection loss are synergistic. When active carbon is composited with ferrite, reflection loss is increased. A further increase, though by a considerably larger amount, is obtained when the resulting C/BaFe12O19 is composited with PPY. It has been shown that the active carbon plays an important role in the properties of the three component composites. The data show that resistance to forced oscillation of electric dipoles is important in developing microwave absorbing materials with wider absorption bandwidth.
