Abstract

The article delves into the preparation of zwitterionic cellulose nanofibers (Z-CNFs) using a betaine-oxalic acid deep eutectic solvent (DES). This method introduces carboxyl and quaternary ammonium groups onto the cellulose surface through esterification, endowing the nanofibers with unique properties. The Z-CNFs exhibit shear-thinning behavior and strong tensile strength, making them ideal for applications in fluid and membrane materials. The study also highlights the influence of DES pretreatment on the rheological and optical properties of the nanofibers, offering a promising strategy for the development of high-quality nanocellulose materials.
