Banking reforms are only justified to the extent that they benefit the economy. This chapter examines the prevailing financial and economic situation in two countries, Hungary and China, after reforms had been implemented. It attempts to discover whether there is any link between banking reforms and economic outcomes. Does the banking system serve the economy well or not, and why? This chapter seeks the answer by looking directly at both the economic situation and the financial situation after the fundamental changes had taken effect in the two countries.
