Zusammenfassung

Produktmanager nutzen in ihrer täglichen Arbeit eine Vielzahl von Werkzeugen, um die Entwicklung digitaler Produkte voranzutreiben. Ein viel diskutiertes Artefakt stellt die Product Roadmap dar. Da Roadmaps neben einigen Vorteilen auch eine Reihe von Risiken mit sich bringen, standen sie im modernen Produktmanagement im agilen Entwicklungskontext zuletzt vermehrt in der Kritik. In diesem Beitrag wird gezeigt, dass Product Roadmaps richtig eingesetzt ein sehr wirksames Instrument im Methodenkoffer von Produktmanagern sind. Da der Anspruch dieses Kapitels weniger eine theoretische Abhandlung als vielmehr eine greifbare Veranschaulichung des Nutzens und der Risiken von Roadmaps in der Praxis ist, wird uns durch das Kapitel die fiktive und mit einem Augenzwinkern gemeinte Internet of Things (IoT) Firma „DigiDog“ begleiten. Diese illustrative Fallstudie basiert auf den Erfahrungen der Autoren im Kontext der Entwicklung von IoT-Produkten (Smart Home, Automotive, Mobility).
