Abstract

The production of low-oxygen titanium powder through magnesiothermic reduction of TiO2 in MgCl2–KCl–CeCl3 molten salt is a promising method that overcomes the limitations of traditional processes. By adding CeCl3 to the molten salt, the solubility of MgO is increased, leading to more effective deoxidation and the production of titanium powder with oxygen concentrations below 1000 ppm. This method offers a shorter process, lower costs, and meets energy efficiency and emission reduction standards, making it a significant advancement in the field of titanium production.
