The Stuttgart-based automotive industry supplier Odelo has developed Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) for rear lights in volume production models. Until now organic lighting technology has only been available in prototype vehicle lights. Ongoing technical developments have made it possible to produce reliable, consistent, practical OLEDs for use in rear lights. OLEDs open up a wide range of new design options for vehicle designers. Instead of creating points of light like LEDs, OLEDs cover large areas. They can also be individually programmed to produce special animation effects. According to Odelo, rear lights with special lighting and design effects will be used initially in the BMW M4 GTS. …
