When used in agricultural machinery, hydraulic line components, such as pipe and hose connections and mountings, need to fulfil high demands regarding corrosion resistance. In many cases, these components come into direct contact with aggressive substances from mineral fertilisers that contain phosphate or nitrogen. As there are no standards or other regulations that are mandatory for all manufacturers regarding the testing of resistance to fertilisers, many manufacturers carry out their own tests by exposing the components to fertiliser substances over defined periods of time, either in short periods or continuously. Due to the lack of reference data, the equipment supplier is then usually chosen on the basis of a visual comparison of the results. Many tests carried out by customers have verified the resistance of the zinc-nickel coating of Stauff and Voswinkel components, not only towards numerous fertilisers but also towards pesticides and other aggressive media. The coating provides more than 1200 h of resistance against red rust/base metal corrosion under practical testing conditions in the salt spray chamber according to DIN EN ISO 9227. The chromium VI-free coating exceeds the highest requirements regarding longevity, as defined, for example, in VDMA Specification 24576.
