According to the company, the new lithium-ion battery system AKASystem OEM 50 PRC from Akasol, with a maximum drive power of 450 kW, enables the full hybridization of heavy trucks and thus could pave the way for an emission-free future of commercial transport. The scalable battery system could be used in plug-in hybrid applications as well as in fully electric commercial vehicles due to its high energy content of 33.6 kWh per system, its high cycle stability in connection with a charging power of 100 kW and discharge powers of maximum 150 kW compared to conventional high performance battery systems. On longer downhill gradients, the braking energy can be recuperated and thus used again for the next acceleration process. In particular, the broad temperature range of the battery system from -30 to +60 °C ensures according to Akasol that sufficient energy and power are available for the vehicle under all operating conditions until the thermal management system has returned the battery to the optimum temperature range.
