With its sixth generation of surround and long-range radar sensors, Continental aims to take a further step toward autonomous mobility. The system is reported to have a compact design, higher sampling rates and 360° surround detection with ranges of around 200 and around 250 m, respectively. Both radar sensors share a software and hardware platform, which leads to a reduction in complexity and thus cost savings. This way, the system will allow predictive applications for Euro NCAP requirements through to higher automated driving functions such as automated lane changes. Technical features of the system, which will go into production in 2023, include an improved detection range and higher resolution for accurate recognition of the vehicle's surroundings. The radars operate at 77 GHz as standard, but are prepared for the band between 77 and 81 GHz and also filter out signals from other radar sensors in road traffic.
