White LEDs with high luminous intensity are being increasingly used in a number of applications in the automotive sector to improve visibility. Rohm has announced the CSL1104WB series of white LEDs in a compact 1608 size with a high luminous intensity of 2.0 cd. The LEDs have been optimized for use in applications where high brightness is required when emitting white light. With dimensions of 1.6 x 0.8 mm, hence 1.288 mm², they are 87 % smaller than the currently mainstream LED with 3528 PLCC package with the same luminosity. The accurate white color chromaticity significantly reduces color variation and simplifies the color adjustment process. The components thus save space in applications and increase design flexibility. This enables easy use in automotive applications. Certification is planned according to the automotive reliability standard AEC-Q102 developed for optical components.
