The VW Golf 8's environment sensor system can be used to collect information for automated driving while the vehicle is in motion. This includes landmarks such as traffic signs, guardrails, curbs and lane markings. The anonymized data is then sent from the vehicle to the Bosch cloud via the VW cloud. The first services are expected to be available in vehicles from 2023. The Bosch road signature uses the collected information from radar and video sensors and vehicle movement data to supplement common navigation maps with additional layers for vehicle localization and control for automated driving. In doing so, it creates a kind of digital twin of the real-world environment. The Bosch road signature thus enables highly accurate self-localization, even in adverse weather conditions, via radar data by allowing the vehicle to compare the information provided by the sensors with that of the digital twin.
