Bosch presented a flexible charging cable with integrated control and safety technology at the IAA Mobility. The so-called Flexible Smart charging cable weighs less than 3 kg and is thus about 40 % lighter than conventional charging cables with a control box. The three-phase cable enables so-called Mode 2 and Mode 3 charging of alternating current with up to 22 kW. Thanks to the adapter for Type-2 and household plugs, a second cable is not necessary. The components for controlling and monitoring the charging power are integrated in the Type-2 plug on the vehicle side. The other end accommodates the household plug with adapter, temperature control and residual current circuit breaker. This ensures that no overloading or overheating occurs when charging at the household socket with up to 3-kW charging power. Bosch expects to start distributing the charging solution to vehicle manufacturers and end customers in mid-2022.
