Abstract

The textile industry is benefiting significantly from the application of nanotechnology, particularly in the area of self-cleaning textiles. Nanoparticles enhance textile properties through mechanisms such as photocatalytic and repellent cleaning. The article delves into the various parameters affecting self-cleaning textiles, including the shape and size of nanoparticles and the morphological structure of the textile materials. It also discusses the mechanisms behind self-cleaning properties, such as the Lotus effect and photocatalysis. The fabrication techniques covered include sol–gel, plasma treatment, pad-dry-cure, dip coating, and electrospinning/electrospray coating. Each method is evaluated for its effectiveness and efficiency in creating self-cleaning surfaces. The article also highlights the importance of reducing water consumption and environmental sustainability through self-cleaning textiles.
