Properties of Oxynitride Steel Coatings Obtained Through Three-Stage Processes of Nitriding Combined with Oxidation

The article delves into the properties of oxynitride steel coatings produced through three-stage processes that combine nitriding with oxidation. It analyzes the impact of pre-oxidation parameters on the mechanical properties, such as wear resistance and bending strength, and corrosion resistance of these coatings. The study involves experimental procedures on 38Cr2MoAl steel samples, comparing different treatment regimes including nitriding without oxidation and stepwise nitriding. The results indicate that three-stage oxynitriding processes significantly enhance wear resistance and bending strength, particularly when pre-oxidation is performed at higher temperatures. Additionally, these processes demonstrate superior corrosion resistance in salt spray tests compared to traditional nitriding and chromium electroplating. The findings highlight the potential of three-stage oxynitriding processes in improving the overall performance of steel components in various industrial applications.
