PSO Application to Optimal Placement of UPFC for Loss Minimization in Power System

Abstract

This paper presents the efficient contribution of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to select the optimal location and the optimal parameters setting of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) which minimize the active power losses and improve the voltage stability in the power network. UPFC is the most promising FACTS devices for power flow control. The simulations are run on the IEEE 14 bus system to validate the proposed technique. The results shows that the optimal placement and parameter setting of FACTS device.
