Abstract

This chapter delves into the challenges of managing large-scale Software-Defined Networking (SDN) environments, particularly focusing on the limitations of centralized and distributed control architectures. It introduces a globally distributed and locally centralized (GDLC) cluster architecture that leverages the advantages of both centralized and distributed models. The text presents a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)-based controller load-balancing algorithm designed to dynamically adjust resource allocation within the controller cluster. The algorithm aims to address issues such as uneven traffic distribution and sudden traffic surges, ensuring efficient operation of SDN networks. The chapter also includes a detailed experimental evaluation, comparing the proposed algorithm with other benchmark strategies in terms of load variance and switch migration cost. The results demonstrate that the PSO-based algorithm outperforms traditional methods, maintaining lower load variance and incurring lower migration costs across different network scales. This approach not only enhances network performance and stability but also provides a robust solution for managing dynamic network environments.
