Abstract

The article delves into the optimization of flight control systems for quadcopter UAVs using PSO–PID controllers. It compares the performance of different error indices such as IAE, ISE, ITAE, and ITSE in achieving optimal maneuvering results. The study highlights the advantages of using meta-heuristic algorithms like Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) over conventional tuning methods. The research includes simulations of altitude and attitude stabilization, trajectory tracking, and wind disturbance handling, showcasing the superior performance of PSO–PID controllers over traditional PID tuning methods. The article concludes with a discussion on the best-performing error index and suggestions for future research, making it a valuable resource for professionals and researchers in the field of UAV control systems.
