Abstract

The incorporation of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) into Poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) via solution casting yields a blend with enhanced properties suitable for various advanced applications. Structural characterizations using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) reveal that increasing PVP content affects the crystallinity and molecular interactions within the blend. Thermal analyses, including thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), confirm the miscibility of PVDF-HFP and PVP, with a single glass transition temperature and melting point observed. Electrical measurements show that the blend exhibits insulating properties, with the lowest DC conductivity observed at 25 wt.% PVP. Dielectric analyses indicate that the addition of PVP enhances interfacial polarization, leading to a high dielectric constant. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) reveals that PVP incorporation lowers the storage modulus of the blend, suggesting a decrease in mechanical rigidity. The study highlights the potential of the PVDF-HFP/PVP blend for applications in electronic devices, medical implants, and protective coatings, offering a detailed exploration of its structural, thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties.
