Abstract

The article discusses the challenge of delayed fault clearing in power systems due to inadequate relay settings, exacerbated by the integration of renewable energy sources. It introduces a quadratic programming-based semi-deterministic approach to optimize the settings of directional overcurrent relays, combining moth flame optimization with quadratic programming. The method is tested on various test systems, demonstrating its effectiveness in achieving global optimum solutions with faster convergence rates compared to traditional methods. The article also compares the proposed method with recent literature, showcasing its superior performance in minimizing relay operating times and improving overall system protection coordination.
