Abstract

The article explores the critical role of retained austenite in advanced high-strength steels used in the automotive industry. It delves into the complex microstructures of TRIP-aided and Q&P steels and the challenges in accurately quantifying retained austenite using dilatation data. The authors propose a method to measure retained austenite in fully quenched conditions using XRD, despite the difficulties posed by routine sample preparation techniques. The study highlights the importance of understanding the stability and transformation of retained austenite during tempering and its impact on the overall microstructure. The findings offer valuable insights into the optimization of steel properties for enhanced performance and safety in automotive applications.
