Abstract

The article discusses the importance of quantifying controversy on social media platforms like Twitter, Sina Weibo, and Quora. It introduces a fine-grained controversy intensity measurement framework that considers stance, sentiment, offensiveness, and sarcasm. The authors present the ProsCons dataset, a large-scale collection of Chinese posts annotated with these perspectives, which serves as a benchmark for various NLP tasks. The framework and dataset are designed to provide a more nuanced understanding of controversial topics and their impact on social media. The article also includes experimental results demonstrating the challenges and potential of these tasks, highlighting the need for further research in this area.
